About Hudson House Press
Hudson House Press was founded in 2026 by Joseph Mara, author and publisher, in Inlet Beach, Florida. It takes its name from a house on the Hudson River in Coeymans, New York — a house built by a community of friends and tradesmen for a woman named Christine, who never stopped planning for the future even when the future had become uncertain.
That house, and the story of how it came to be, is at the heart of everything Hudson House Press publishes.
We exist because some stories cannot wait for permission. Tina Ballerina: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and New Beginnings was written at 4:10 in the morning by a man who had spent five years watching his wife fight breast cancer with clarity, humor, and an unshakeable sense of who she was. It was written because the people who lived that journey deserved to have it told honestly — not sanitized, not sentimentalized, but exactly as it happened, with all of its difficulty and all of its grace.
Hudson House Press publishes memoir. We publish the kind of writing that begins with a specific life — one person, one family, one set of friendships — and arrives somewhere universal. We believe that the most intimate stories are often the most broadly true. That restraint is a form of respect. That the reader deserves to feel things without being told what to feel. That a plain declarative sentence, when it is the right sentence, is worth more than a paragraph of elaboration.
Our books are written from experience. They are published with care. They are offered to the people who need them — which, in our experience, turns out to be more people than you might expect.
The second book under the Hudson House Press imprint is The Boy from Glen St. — a memoir of seventy-five years, from a childhood in Rensselaer, New York to the present day in Mallorca, Spain. It is the story of the life that contained the story already told.
We are a small press. We intend to stay that way. What we will not do is publish anything we do not believe in completely.
